Day 8 of 30
Have you noticed that everywhere you turn, everyone is selling bead jewelry? How do you make your jewelry stand out from the competition?
Define your niche!
Finding a niche means finding a product range that appeals to a small, specific section of a market, especially a group that are passionate about those products!
You are after a niche where there are enough people that want what you have to offer, are willing to pay for it and are easy to find and advertise to.
While it seems counter-intuitive to cater to a small group of people, you will find that defining your niche is the path to profits in your bead jewelry business for three main reasons:
- You are marketing your products to a small yet highly targeted group of people therefore your advertising costs are lower.
- You can charge more for your products because you are no longer offering a commodity and competing with other bead jewelry artists catering to the masses
- You can develop a strong customer base, with repeat sales and plenty of referrals.
During my time consulting to bead jewelry artists, I’ve found that defining a niche is often the trickiest step. I’d like to share some general suggestions for niche markets which I hope will inspire you.
- Jewelry for a cause – humanitarian (e.g Haiti), disease (e.g. cancer)
- Film and cult TV – e.g. Harry Potter
- Sports – Football team colours
- Pets – Dog and Cat collar jewelry
Have a think about these and see how many niche ideas you can come up with!
